The Blogosphere
This morning I worked on my blogs and did a few hours of research on the internet. I have been looking for other ‘bloggers’ in the ‘blogosphere’, that is, other people who write their diaries and publish them on the internet. I am especially looking for birders who publish their sightings and writers who publish their writing in this way.
 “The Advertiser” Newspaper, Adelaide
After lunch I was reading today’s “Advertiser†newspaper and found an article written by Samela Harris about Adelaide woman Shai Coggins who has been dubbed as one the 10 “Most Powerful Women in Blogging.† After finishing reading the paper I went online to investigate her blogs and web sites. One of her sites is a blog about writing, with writing hints, ideas and tips. She even runs, among many other things, writing courses over the internet.

The Spirit Led Writer
I’ve subscribed to the Christian writers’ electronic newsletter The Spirit Led Writer for some time now and have found some very interesting and worthwhile articles contained in it. It is a monthly digest type magazine written by a wide range of authors who write for the Christian market.
Inspirational
Many of the articles are well thought out and easy to read. Others are quite inspirational, like the article in the current issue written by Susan Sundwall called Finding Inspiration: Heeding the Breath of God. In this article Susan explores what it means to be inspired by God in one’s writing and the types of markets that accept this genre. She ends the article by listing some markets that pay for inspirational writing.
This newsletter boasts a high standing in the writing community. It was named one of the 101 Best Web Sites for Writers in both 2003 and 2004 by Writers’ Digest Magazine.

Useful writer’s newsletter
I’ve just finished reading this week’s edition of “Pass It On”. This is a weekly newsletter emailed to subscribers and covers many topics relevant to writers for children. It is packed full of interesting information, hints, tips, publishing needs and current trends. There is also the opportunity to contribute ideas for other authors to read as well as being able to ask questions of other writers, making it a very worthwhile forum. It is well worth the $2 per month subscription.

Encouraging News
Writing Course
I am currently doing a writing course that concentrates on writing for children, my chosen area. After 35 years of teaching primary age children I have some insight into the types of stories children enjoy. This course is run by Adelaide author Robyn Opie who has over 60 published titles to her credit.
Mentorship
The writing course includes a series of writing exercises that are submitted to Robyn as my mentor for comment and suggestions for improvements. On Friday I received a reply from her on a manuscript I had sent to her earlier in the week. She said that my picture book manuscript was, with a few little changes, ready for submission to a publisher. Wow! That’s really encouraging.
Other Writing
I have so much writing that needs to be submitted to publishers that I will be busy in the coming months. Then I have many ideas for stories that need a great deal of planning and then hard work getting the stories written. Stay tuned for further news.
